Doom is a bit good isn't it? A bit old but still a classic. Search on the internet and you'll find trillions of sites like this one (though probably much better) dedicated to Id's masterpiece. Okay so now is the time of the Quake clans but I'd still prefer a bash on doom any day. It is so satisfying to blow a Cacodemon away. Anyway the purpose of this section of my site is to allow you mortals to download some great wads which are floating around the internet. There are also a few wads which I designed myself using Deep97, a brilliant piece of software.
(Just in case you haven't got a clue what I am talking about, scroll to the bottom of this page and all shall be explained! )
First my levels! (please take a look!)
CAHAL.ZIP (ver 1.0) --- A nasty little level. My own creation! This will take about 0.000001 seconds to download!!! Go ahead, you know you want to! Please give me feedback about this level if you can spare the time. If you have a mail programme set up for your computer simply click here to mail me! Okay so there is only one level but I think it isn't bad. (I zipped the file to make downloading faster even though the file is tiny.)
CAHAL2.ZIP (ver 1.1) --- My second creation and if you download it you'll see that it is much more complex than the first. I think that it is much better too and offers more of a challenge. I tried to overcome the limitations in the Doom engine that prevent two areas being over the top of one another by using different heights of platform which the player must 'jump' from. I think this is quite fun to do in Doom. Then again I can't really judge how good my level is because I designed it. I need someone else to tell me if it is crap or not. That's what the mailing link on the previous paragraph is for! This is the second release. The first one had some bugs in it like the player getting stuck. There was a HOM (Hall of mirrors) effect also which has been eridicated.

Phew! What a mass of levels!
Lovely background, eh? Quite demonic and typical of Doom. I managed to extract this background from Doom by using Wintex for Windows. This piece of software allows you to muck about with Doom wads like for example, changing the textures and stuff. I haven't quite worked it out yet though!
What is a WAD?
A wad is the file extension name for the main game file of Doom just like an executable programme ends in .exe. The main game file in Doom contains all of the graphic, level, texture sound and other essential data to run Doom.
So what! Why would I want to download a 'wad?
Well, if you own Doom II and would like more levels to play, wads are what you are looking for. The big list above this feature dozens of wads that people have created, including myself. Then again, if you think Doom is crap GO AWAY!
Okay, so I've downloaded your stupid level and successfully unzipped the file. How do I get it to work?
It's quite simple really. First you must copy the wad to your Doom II directory (this is not entirely essential though It helps keep track of things) At the dos prompt (c:\>) type what you would normally type to get into the directory where Doom II is located (e.g. cd\doom2 ). Then type the following exactly:
doom2 -file c:\doom2\cahal.wad
On pressing enter Doom will load up as normal except if you keep a beady eye on the startup messages you should see 'adding c:\doom2\cahal.wad' being displayed under adding doom2.wad. Then play to your heart is content!
